Honey Bees & Bee Removal

Honey bees that you see in hives aren't native to the US, we have native bees, but they are typically solitary and if they do have a hive it's very small. Nevertheless, bees are great pollinators, native or not. Without bees we would have no food supply. While there are many insects that are capable of pollination, bees do it faster and more efficiently. Most honey bees are not aggressive, in fact they're usually pretty mild mannered and have no interest in stinging you. After all, unlike wasps a bee only gets one shot, then it dies. It's not in their best interest to randomly sting people, that would impact their hive and they are all about their hive life. That doesn't mean that you can't be stung by a honey bee. This usually occurs because you step on one while it's gathering nectar from a daisy and you're prancing around in the yard with bare feet. Another way is if they feel you pose a threat to the hive - although that's rare. I have opened up part of a wall where a hive had been made, able to scoop them up bare handed without getting stung a single time. I had to be careful doing this because if you get close to the queen then that could trigger a few stings. 

Not all bees are docile, though, the africanized bee is terribly aggressive and will relentlessly pursue its target. Fortunately, there are no known africanized bees in Arkansas or Oklahoma.

So, as you can read, it's very important not to kill honey bees unless it's just absolutely necessary.
